Baker Center Call for Graduate Research Assistantship Proposals

The Laurence H. Baker Center for Bioinformatics and Biological Statistics invites applications for graduate research assistantships to support graduate students engaged in bioinformatics and/or biological statistics research.  All areas of bioinformatics and biological statistics will be considered for support based on perceived merit of the proposed research.  Special priority for funding will be given to graduate students whose research aligns with priorities of the Plant Sciences Institute, which include research on understanding and predicting phenotypes from genetic and environmental information.  Supported students may work on existing projects or begin work on new projects.  Around 5 to 10 awards are expected.

A faculty member proposing to supervise a graduate student's work should complete and upload an application form with a proposed research description by 5:00 P.M. on November 19, 2021.  Selected projects will receive funding consisting of the graduate student’s stipend, tuition, and fringe benefits for the funding period of spring semester 2022, summer 2022, or spring and summer 2022.  The amount of the stipend is expected to match the standard stipend amount of the student’s primary degree program.  At the close of the funding period, the supported graduate student will submit a brief report that summarizes progress on the research project.  The supervising faculty member will review and approve the report prior to submission.
