P16: Mitochondrial transcriptome construction using 454 Data of garter snake

Short Title: Mitochondrial transcriptome construction using 454 Data of garter snake
Mentors: Dr. Anne Bronikowski
Description:

We have been working with John Van Helmert on our transcriptome for
the garter snake. The sequencing was accomplished at the Indiana
University Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics. We currently have an
assembled transcriptome that is partially annotated from 20 male and 20
female garter snakes (all ages, 5 tissues, sexes sequenced and assembled
separately). The student will work with John on the following:
1) Mitochondrial transcriptome construction from a 454‐pyrosequenced
transcriptome that contains all nuclear and mitochondrial transcripts.
2) SNP discovery within the (constructed in step 1) mitochondrial
transcriptome.
